The Ten Session Series
of Structural Integration

Structural Integration was created by biochemist Ida P. Rolf, Ph.D., who lived from 1896 to 1979. She wrote a book entitled Rolfing: The Integration of Human Structure. Dr. Rolf  developed original ideas regarding the healing of the human body through manual manipulation of the body’s fascial connective tissues. Fascial tissues create a body-wide web that supports, surrounds, and penetrates all muscle, ligaments, tendons, bones, nerves and organs. Dr. Rolf’s goal was to create a new, better human being with more ease and balance in their bodymind.

Healthy connective tissue supports all the major systems of the body and the structures embedded within it by delivering blood flow, nutrients, neural impulses, energetic messages efficiently, as well as removing metabolic wastes more effectively. When connective tissues become twisted in rotation, they can shorten, compress, and dry out. This dehydration leads to a buildup of metabolic wastes that cause inflammation, pain, and degeneration. The fascia can also adhere to itself or other structures, distorting its 3-dimensional fascial web within the body. This pulls body segments and bony structures out of alignment. Much of the pain in the body is due to its related soft tissue restrictions.

Dr. Rolf developed a series of ten sessions of Structural Integration that she called “The Recipe.” Each session has specific goals and intentions. Through the ten-series, the body becomes able to move more efficiently with greater ease, coordination, and flexibility. Mental attitude and athletic performance may improve. The recipe is customized  according to the client’s needs. Practitioners slowly use their soft fingers, knuckles and forearms to balance the segments of the body around a central vertical axis and create length and space in the connective tissues.

The recipe has three parts. Sessions 1 through 3 address the superficial fascia. Sessions 4 to 7 work with the core-level structures. Sessions 8 to 10 are integrative and customized according to the clients’ needs. These sessions systematically work with every part of the body in a very sequential way, supporting freedom of movement. When the major segments of the body are balanced in relation to the gravitational field, gravity can become a beneficial force!

Deep Tissue Myofascial Release

Jean Louise Green uses myofascial release techniques in her deep tissue work to help ease areas of strain and myofascial restrictions in the body. From a structural perspective, this work also helps to organize, balance, increase length in the body and free range of motion at the joints. It is especially good for spot work in areas of injury.

Deep Tissue or Therapeutic Massage one hour session = $80.00

Deep Tissue or Therapeutic Massage 1.5 hour session =  $120.00 – $130.00

The BEMER
Bio-Electro-Magnetic Energy Regulation

A free modality that Jean Louise offers her clients as a way to help integrate their bodywork after a session, is through the use of an electro-magnetic healing device called the BEMER. BEMER stands for Bio Electro-Magnetic Energy Regulation. An eight-minute session on the BEMER mat can help stimulate the immune system, increase microcirculation in the capillaries, increase energy production, and support the rest and repair of the body.

“Electromagnetic energy is known as the oldest form of energy in the universe. Since the beginning, nature has produced this form of energy as the basis for the proper functioning of all organisms.” Peter Gleim, president of Inomad International AG, the manufacturing corporation of the BEMER, a pulsed magnetic field device.

The Far Infra Red Sauna

Sauna Fee: $15.00

One of the healing modalities that I sometimes make available to clients is the use of a far infrared sauna. The infrared sauna is particularly good for detoxification after a Structural Integration session, particularly for people who have a greater need for detoxification. Use of the sauna will require approximately forty-five minutes following a session. The sauna helps a person quickly clear out toxins that have gotten stirred up from their session. People feel better more quickly with the use of the sauna after their Structural Integration session. An informational PDF document regarding the infrared sauna is entitled:
